Mapua - Ruby Coast & Tasman

FIND US...  A wee seaside diversion along the coast halfway between Nelson & Motueka. Gives travellers a small village which is rich in offerings. Nestled between two mountain ranges the Richmond and Kahurangi creates a pocket of air that always sees the sun. Or so the Air New Zealand pilots tell us.

Years ago Mapua was know for the largest collection point for the apple harvest and toxic dumping of DDT. Now with its fisherman's wharf, contemporary mall, superb eateries, unique crafts, hand crafted beer and Sunday market. It has become a popular tourist destination. The Mapua ferry takes cyclists and walkers across to Rabbit Island - which provides long stretches of empty beach to explore and wander. Great Taste cycling trail crosses over Mapua and winds up the hills towards Motueka. The towering cliffs of Kina provide beaches to explore and a challenging golf course at the top.  VIDEO SAMPLING BELOW
